Our Work Standards

When it comes to preserving and displaying artwork, photographs, and treasured items, not all framing is created equal. At The Framing Centre, we follow the professional guidelines set out by the Fine Art Trade Guild, which define four recognised levels of framing, from museum-grade to basic display.

Each level uses different materials and techniques, influencing both the cost and the long-term protection your piece receives. Our team will advise you on the most suitable option for your artwork or item.

Level 1. Ultimate Protection

This is the highest level of framing, designed for valuable, historic, or irreplaceable pieces. We use museum-grade materials and specialist techniques that ensure maximum preservation. All methods are fully reversible, meaning the artwork can be returned to its original state within 35 years under normal conditions, provided the piece itself is stable.
Choose this level for important works of art, family heirlooms, rare artefacts, or anything that deserves lifetime care.

Level 2. Conservation Standard

Our recommended minimum for long-term protection. At this level, we use conservation-quality materials and best-practice techniques to shield your artwork from physical damage, airborne pollutants, and acid deterioration. All framing processes remain reversible and will protect your piece for up to 20 years in normal conditions. This option is ideal for original art, collectables, limited edition prints, and items you want to preserve for future generations.

Level 3. Decorative Standard

A great balance between presentation and protection, this level enhances the visual appeal of your piece while providing a moderate level of defence against physical wear, airborne pollutants, and acids. Reversibility is not required at this stage. It’s best suited for artwork or items that are replaceable or have moderate sentimental value.

Level 4. Basic Standard

This entry-level option provides a simple frame solution at the lowest cost. It uses basic materials and techniques, and does not include protective measures or reversible processes. It’s suitable for decorative items or pieces where preservation is not a priority.

Whether you’re framing a valuable painting, a sports jersey, or a cherished family keepsake,

The Framing Centre will help you choose the right level of care to match your needs and budget.
